Okay, I’m back in the loop. Buy hey, that’s way too much information but it gives you an idea of the variety of rides on offer and the different priorities and personal circumstances of the riders in choosing one ride over another. It also reflects the time commitment of the riders. Not everyone has a long leash or the wants to escape domestic confines. And, some riders like to hit the snooze button while others like to get up and at it. We each have differing expectations, too; for example, some of us favour the Saturday Gatineau rides and others do not.

In the past, we’ve tried to be flexible, by finding the middle ground. This is now becoming difficult as riders voice their opinion on what suits them best. Hey, that’s democracy.

Perspective is a matter of the lens and the frame from which we view the world. For example, both the early (6:30 am) and the late (7:30 am) riders stated they made the right call this morning; and, they wondered why the others chose differently. Both groups were satisfied on all accounts. This got us thinking that there’s merit in being more accommodating by way of offering a greater choice of ride times – one at 6:30/7 am, the other at 7:30/8 to attract a larger number of potential participants. This may also result in bringing new cyclists to the weekend rides. By my count, there is an even split among the regulars between a desire to ride early – M,R,Kev,T,B,E,H; or, late – K,J,N,C,A,S. To simplify, we could have a designated ‘leader’ for each group to coordinate and to set routes, coffee stops, etc. Something to consider.

Ask yourself, where else would you rather be when the alarm rings on weekend mornings than on your bicycle pedalling away the fatty bits? You know you’ll just want to be there.
