July 01/18: 102 Kms; 3 Hrs, 10; 433 Metres; Seven Riders

Hello, and Happy Canada Day to you all –

Wow, that was hot. Actually, it was fine until the last hour when the clouds dissipated and we were left to contend with a remorseless sun, whose rays were as fierce as a blacksmith’s ball-peen hammer raining down on cold steel. We didn’t ‘give’ under the force but we weren’t far from it. The temperature was 35 C and the humidity was 40+ – not pleasant. But, hey, where else would you have rather been than riding your bicycle and thumbing your nose at Sloth, that ever lurking, evil beast ready to steal your days and nights with his soft allure of idleness. Entropy will get us all in the end but why advance the date, I ask?

Resist, I say and ride your bike! “Life is short; art is long.” “The grave’s a fine and private place,/ But none, I think, do there embrace.” All to say that in the end, it doesn’t matter one whit to the universe or anyone else, really.

“And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.” I 22-13

Thanks to to-day’s cyclists for braving the elements and for adding their joyfulness to to-day’s intoxicating recipe. You know, you just should have been there!

Okay, here’s the plan for Monday – wind direction will determine whether we ride 1) or 2).

1) Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for a 6:30 am 6:30 am 6:30 am 6:30 am start and ride toTim’s on Obrien fro coffee (km 49); home via Whitten, Gillan, L-W, etc for  total distance of  83 kms; 485 Metres

2) Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for a 6:30 am 6:30 am 6:30 am 6:30 am start and ride to Carp for morning coffee with Alice (Km 53). You know, you’ll just want to be there!  Total distance 89 kms; 406 Metres.

Ask yourself, where else would you rather be when the alarm rings on Sunday morning than on your bicycle pedalling away the fatty bits? You know you’ll just want to be there.

Caveat: Route is tentative and is depends upon rider consensus, the turnout, and wind direction.

For those with time constraints, there are many options to cut it short. Don’t miss out, just because the route is longer than you have time for. Weather:  23C – 30 C; Mainly sunny; winds 1) SE 15 or 2) SW 15-20.
