Hello to you all.

First the good news: The start time tomorrow is 7:30 am; now, the bad news: It’s 7:30 because it will be cold as ice! Dress for winter.

My apologies, I’m late with this post about Saturday’s ride. I’ve been per-occupied with personal matters that have kept me away from the house and the computer. But, now I’m back, my head is clear, like a limpid pool in a verdant forest trail. I’m ready to talk about tomorrow’s ride. Speaking of which, it’s raining as I write this, and cold – not exactly favourable conditions to ride a bicycle. But, the outlook for Saturday morning is better, with no rain in the forecast, full sunshine, albeit low temperatures, and a north wind. I’m hoping that you won’t be deterred by that. We certainly can’t complain. We’ve had some great rides of late in terrific conditions. Now, we pay the piper. You’ll need extra clothing, for sure.

Here’s the tentative plan for Saturday: (subject to rider consensus)

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 am 7:30 7.30 am start and ride to Starbucks in Kanata via Old Hwy 17, Galetta, Stoencrest, Thomas Dolan, 6th Line, March Valley Rd, etc for coffee at km 57 kms; home via Old Carp Rd, Cnty Rd 5, Cnty 20, Dwyer Hill, etc for a total distance of 105 kms and 490 metres.

Alternatively, if conditions are unfavourable, we will ride to Carp to have coffee with Alice. Same route as above, except we’ll turn right on Thomas Dolan at Stonecrest and ride to cnty Rd 5 and Carp for coffee after 43 kms; home via DbM, Vaughn, Dwyer Hill, etc for a total of 83 kms and 382 metres.

For those with time constraints, there are options to cut it short at several points along the way. Don’t miss out, just because the route is longer than you have time for.

Sorry, no map provided.

This route has lots of rollers and steady gradients, just enough to keep you warm. There is nothing too difficult.

When the alarm rings in the morning, ask yourself, “Where else would I rather be?” than on my bike pedalling away the fatty bits. If you need encouragement, just think you’ll be five months off the bicycle (Nov – March).

We have no training goal at this time other than the pure enjoyment of riding a bicycle.

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road.

Weather: 2 – 12 C; full sun; POP 10%; winds N at 15.

Caveat: All this subject to change based upon the turnout and the weather and rider consensus.

When all the world is young, lad,/
And all the trees are green;/
And every goose is a swan, lad,/
And every lass a queen;/
Then hey, for boot and horse, lad,
/And round the world away;/Young blood must have its course, lad,
/And every dog its day.        Charles Kingsley
