Aug 26/17: 95 Kms; 2Hrs 56; 556 Metres; Seven Riders

Hello. That was a classic fall morning. Just one thing: it’s not fall yet. Still, it was a grand morning, with a high, clear blue sky, with only whiffs of clouds, and a slight north-west wind. Just delightful in the way these things can be when conditions are right, the spirits high, and one’s companions amiable and cheery. You know, you really just should have been there.

If you haven’t guessed already, this was one sweet ride, not the least because the wind was a non-factor. On the down side, we did cross Highway 17 four times, with only one of these causing us a slight delay. But, we welcomed this, as it afforded a brief respite from what had been a brisk pace. The route had been tough enough too as I was to find out again in a few kilometres, when my disparaging comments about Goshen’s puny climb came back to bite me hard. It didn’t seem to have that effect on CM, who led the way with growing confidence. So much so, that we seized her medical bag for investigation. We were curious. Just what’s in there – consistent hard work, intensity, routine, and discipline seem to be the drugs of choice. Can’t argue with that. Might have some myself.

So, there you have it. Just another super day in the saddle. Tomorrow, we ride again.

Here’s the tentative plan for Sunday: (subject to rider consensus)

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 am 7:30 am start and ride to Starbucks in Kanata via Old Hwy 17, Galetta, Stonecrest, Marchurst, Murphy, 2nd Line, Old Carp Rd (km 47 for coffee); home via Old Carp Rd, Cnty Rd 5, Kinburn Sd Rd, Dwyer Hill, etc for a total distance of 96 kms and 442 metres of climbing

This route is easier than to-day’s but there are constant rollers, making it feel slightly tougher. So, when the alarm rings in the morning, ask yourself, “Where else would I rather be?” than on my bike pedalling away the fatty bits. You just know you’ll feel real good afterwards. It’ll be an easy ride. Aren’t they all?

Our training goal is to gain power and strength and to build upon our existing endurance base.

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road.

Weather: 12 – 22 C, full sun; POP 20%; winds NE 10.
