Aug 06/17: 90 Kms; 2 Hrs 55; 650 Metres; Seven Riders

Are you like me and wondering what month it is? It doesn’t feel like August, does it? – more like early May or late April or mid September. The temperature was barely double digits at 7:30 when we left Stinsons and headed into a westerly gale. What’s with that? It was tough sledding, especially after yesterday’s travails. Io sono molto stanco adesso! We had enough of the wind by Renfrew and decided to cut the course short by 9 kms, rather than enduring, beyond that point, the energy sapping effects of the head wind. There was no dissension on that count. So, we turned for Tim’s for coffee and sequestered ourselves in its air-conditioned un-comfort. Really, you would think the manager would be more attuned to his customer’s physical ease. Yes, this is all gripes but you should read it as commentary only. Smile and Breathe. On the plus side, we had our fair share of laughs and good-natured ribbing, when the TD forgot his own route and made a few wrong turns, resulting in extra climbing on McLaughlin and McLeod which took us to Calabogie Road (again). This hill work ultimately made up in effort for the shorter ride, and was especially welcomed by Neil, who used it to good effect on the homeward leg. In fact, there was speculation on what fueled Neil, so torrid was his pace on Lochwinnow, Stevenson, Braeloch, and Campbell Drive. To say it was exhilarating is like saying one’s first paragliding experience was exhilarating. We hung on, white knuckles and all, hoping for a roller or two, or steep incline to curb his pace. Didn’t happen. All in all, you know, you really just should have been there.
Here’s the tentative plan for Monday (subject to rider consensus)

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 am 7:30 am start and ride to Carp for coffee with Alice at Km 39; home via Carp Rd (#5) to Fitzroy, etc for a total of 76 Kms.

This route is relatively flat on the way out but has some rollers on Cnty Rd 5 and it’s a bit of a drag back up to the Dwyer Hill from Fitzroy. Our training goal for Monday is to spin and eliminate and residual lactic acid from the legs from the weekend’s heavy riding.

Take note that many of the lads will be at work on Monday. Consequently, not expecting much of a turnout. If you can make it, that would be great.

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road.

Weather: 12 – 17 C, mixed sun and cloud; POP low; winds E & SE 15.

Caveat: All this subject to change based upon the turnout and the weather and rider consensus.
