June 18/17: 68 Kms; 2 Hrs 12; 453 Metres; Seven Riders

Where else would you rather be on a hot, humid morning on Father’s day than riding in the fresh (sometime pungent) air of the country with your buddies – absolutely delightful. They we were battling the south wind and doing our best to hold the wheel in front. It was all good, except for the unexpected two kilometre stretch of hard-pack on Waba road. The tour director took some flak for this and came under tough questioning but the overall mood was light and cheery. No harm done, but the point was made to not let it happen again. So, we rode on in search of new pavement. We turned at Campbell Side Rd and faced its tough climb up Maple Hill and rode past the shuttered St George’s Church. We had some faint hope that its silent spirits would bless our self-flagellation, as we attempted once again to put another nail in Sloth’s coffin. We obviously met with approval because the ride to Neat with KO in the lead and the ride to Stinsons with RM pulling us at speed down the mountain were truly things of beauty. You just should have been there.

Again, thanks to everyone for participating in these weekend rides. Much appreciated. May the rest of your day be filled with sunshine and good cheer.

Church Going

Once i am sure there’s nothing going on
I step inside letting the door thud shut.
Another church: matting seats and stone
and little books; sprawlings of flowers cut
For Sunday brownish now; some brass and stuff
Up at the holy end; the small neat organ;
And a tense musty unignorable silence
Brewed God knows how long. Hatless I take off
My cylce-clips in awkward reverence        PL
