September 03/16: 87 Kms; 2 Hrs 46; 569 Metres; Seven Riders

Well, hello. It was a cool start from Stinsons this morning, with many of us gloved up and with half-leggings on to combat the 7 C temperature. To make matters worse, we rode into a thick fog on Campbell Drive that persisted until we topped Story Land hill, where we emerged into bright sunshine and warm air.  It was a new day there; and, the contrast was welcome, and beautiful. That was the overriding theme for the rest of the ride, as we rode with little effort from there to coffee at the Bonnechere Cafe.  Well, there was the usual interval on #132 into Renfrew, and, of course, we took advantage of the north-west wind on Campbell Drive to boot it home, with Neil and Cathy pressing the pace towards the overpass on #17. You just should have been there.

Here’s the tentative plan for Sunday, assuming wind is from the east:

Meet at Stinsons at 7:30 am 7:30 am and ride to Carp for coffee with Alice via old hwy 17 to the Galetta Side Rd to Stonecrest to Thomas Dolan to Marchurst to Murphy’s Side Rd to Second Line to Old Carp Rd to Carp; home via County Rd 5 to the Kinburn Side Rd, etc. for a total distance of  90 kms (that’s a guess).

NOTE the Venue and Time: Stinsons on White Lake Rd 7:30 am, sharp departure.

Temperature will be in the low teens; wind E at 10. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

As for the ride, it’s 500 metres+-.  It’s a slight change in route from our usual circuit to Carp. This time we’ll ride the length of Stonecrest and then zig and zag our way to Old Carp road. The homeward route will be straight as an arrow on #5 to Fitzroy, most likely. You’ll just want to be there. Coffee after 45 kilometres. As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow.

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all. New cyclists welcome.
