Well, hello. No doubt, many of you have alfresco and littoral plans for tomorrow. Who wouldn’t given the hot weather? It’s ideal for a get-together with family and friends, for time at the beach, for boating, picnicking, and the barbecue. But, before all that, your bicycle beckons you for an early morning indulgence of joy and delight in the charming company of fellow devotees of  ‘the ride.’ Who amongst you can resist that call? Not me. I’ll be waiting with anticipation for the unknown arrivals at the For the Road County Cafe. It’s a kind of chocolate box surprise each weekend – will it be toffee, almond and marzipan, truffle, dark or milk, nougat, mint, nutty caramel, praline, or strawberry dream. You are all sweet but which one is you?

Here’s the tentative plan for Friday, assuming winds are from the south-east:

Meet at Stinsons at 7:30 am 7:30 am and ride to Almonte via Dwyer Hill to Vaughn to Burnt Lands to #49 for coffee at Equator or Palms or Tim’s (your choice); home via, Martin St, Blakeney, Pakenham, Waba Rd, Tenth Line for a total distance if approx 70 kms+-.

NOTE the Venue and Time: Stinsons 7:30 am, sharp departure.

Since it’s July 01, we’ll drop the effort back a bit.

As usual, the plan is to keep moving, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow. The coffee stop is at the 58 kms+-.

Temperature will be in the high 20’s; wind south-east at 15. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

As for the ride, this is a plain Jane ride on the outward leg, with not much to recommend it, except for the unknown delight that awaits us on Vaughn and Burnt Lands. Would that be hills and tar and chip or both? It’s a surprise. The homeward journey will take in the usual rural sights of Blakeney and surrounds.

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all. New cyclists welcome.
