June 18/16: 94 Kms; 3 Hrs 08; 484 Metres; Ten Riders

Okay, that was disjointed and shorter than advertised but flexibility and adaptation are keys to success in life. So, we compromised on the route and the distance to allow everyone to meet prearranged deadlines. All this, and we still had time for coffee and sticky buns in Pakenham. But, that was no thanks to the recalcitrant wind, which obviously hadn’t read the forecast; or, willfully ignored it by blowing merrily from the wrong direction, and thus gave us no comfort.

Yet, the ride was a delight, with fields ripe with the first cut of hay, crops bursting through the earth, and the smells and sounds of early summer upon us.  There is much to enjoy in these country cycles. You know, you really just should have been there.

Here’s the tentative plan for Sunday (Father’s Day Special):

Meet at Stinsons at 7:30 am 7:30 am and ride to Renfrew via Campbell Dr., Stevenson, River Road, Castleford, Garden of Eden, Pinnacle, Butler, S. McNaughton, Opeongo, etc to Tims on O’Brien for coffee; home via Lochwinnow,  Miller Rd, etc. for a total estimated distance of 87 kms. This is a great ride with lots of ups and downs but nothing too difficult. You don’t want to miss this one.

NOTE the Venue and Time: Stinsons 7:30 am, sharp departure.

The plan is to keep moving, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow.

Temperature will be in the high 20’s/low 30’s C ; wind west at 20. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all. New cyclists welcome.
