May 28/16: 168 Kms; 5 Hrs 40; 1175 Metres; Thirteen Riders.

Well, that was brutal, the second half that is:  heat, humidity, high sun, and wind. The air was stifling. The sun burned. This was a contrast to the outward leg when several of us commented on the fresh fragrance of spring lilac and other nosegay delights. The cloud cover and relatively cool air made for excellent conditions. But, by mid morning, all this was lost when the tardy sun finally came out to play as if to make up for lost time. We were not impressed, given that the ambient temperature was sufficient onto itself. It was akin to adding salt to potato chips, as if the chips are not salty enough themselves. Who does that anyway?

Kudos to everyone for completing the circuit in sharp order. And, yes, you just should have been there when we surfed the wave flowing from Keith and Rob’s acceleration on Beachburg road. Now that was fun!

What a happy coincidence. The key board batteries are low, as is my energy level. That means no more drivel since I have to get right to the point about Sunday’s ride. Tomorrow is just to pedal and to get some distance but there will also be climbs to test the legs. We won’t push the pace, after to-day’s hard effort, but we’ll keep it honest. Unfortunately, the wind won’t be our best friend on Sunday either.

Here’s the tentative plan (it’s rain or shine):

Meet at Stinsons at 8am 8am (SHARP) and ride to Carp for coffee with Alice via White Lake Rd, then Conc 9 to Waba Rd to Pakenham, hwy 29 to Blakeney to Panmure Rd, Donald B Munro to the village of Carp; home via Thomas Dolan and Stonecrest to Kinburn SR to Dwyer Hill, etc. for a total distance of approx 85 – 90 kms.

NOTE the Venue and Time. Stinsons and 8 am 8 am, sharp departure.

The plan is to keep moving, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow.

Temperatures will be low to mid twenties; wind south-east at 10; changing to S. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all.
