May 07/16: 106 Kms; 3 Hrs 51; 734 Metres; Nine Riders.

Two spoons of yoghurt, a banana, one ounce of cheese, a slice of bread and peanut butter, a dozen almonds, two cups of tea. That’s about it – my apres cycle repast to replenish stores for Sunday. Will it work? I hope so.

Well, that was a tough ride but tomorrow’s will require more effort. The forecast has changed and it would appear conditions will be dry and cool, and windy. I doubt if we’ll see much spandex. It’ll be tights and toe caps, and long sleeves – again. Tell me, “Is Spring here yet?”

To-day’s temperature was fine when the sun appeared. Otherwise, it was grey and dark, and foreboding at times. The sun was intermittent at best. The wind took all the glory and drove us into echelon formation down the Quebec side. At the ferry, we took shelter as best we could on the Grant Beattie. Then began the long haul from the river to Fitzroy, Galeta, and finally Dwyer Hill, where we befriended the wind and sailed home with little effort.

By the way, who invited the black flies? Next time, run it past me first. Thank goodness Ms. Puncture couldn’t bridge the gap.

Kudos to Rob for riding in from Kanata for a total circuit of 160 kms++.

Right, here’s the tentative plan for Sunday:

Meet at Stinsons at 8 am 8am and ride to Pucker St via Russett Drive and Burnstown (appox 30 kms); then, up Pucker to Norton/Hwy 34; then back to the Burnstown Rd (approx 38 kms); then, it’s Barnet Blvd to Tim’s on O’Brien Rd; then home via Whitten, Lochwinnow, etc. Total distance estimated to be 96 kms. You’ll be happy with the hills; there’s lots of climbing. Not to be missed.

NOTE the Venue and Time. Stinsons and 8 am.

Of course, all this subject to change based upon the turnout and the actual weather, and one’s mood at the time.

Okay, back to the ride: If you haven’t ridden Pucker St, you’ll love it. And, it’s a double treat this time because we are riding out and back. It’s just one long set of rollers on, mostly, smooth pavement.

On the down side, there is no coffee stop until 70 kms into the ride, so bring gels, bars, or what ever works for you. Also, drink lots of water before leaving home. The first chance to top up is at Tim’s.

Sunday’s weather forecast is calling for sun and low single digits; winds NW 25 gusting to 35. Now, why did I tell you that.

Alert: Information about our ride’s (for all that participate), these are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top.
