April 23/16: 72 Kms; 2Hrs 39; 552 Metres; Seven Riders

Well, there we were, minutes before the ride, all with the same thoughts –  unvoiced by anyone, but loud and incessant just the same, ” What am I doing here? This is crazy. It’s f…g cold.” Yes, it was a grim start and a knuckle-headed idea to ride in sub-zero wind-chill conditions. And, like many a questionable start (think Columbus sailing from Palos for the new world), it began with doubts aplenty; we had no promise but only hope that it would end well. And, it did, frozen water bottles and all. You just should have been there.

And, you can on Sunday when we will do it all again. Here’s the tentative plan:

Meet at Stinsons  at 9am 9am on White Lake Road and ride to Pakenham for coffee and sticky buns on the front steps of the General Store; route via Russett to Stewartville, Kippen into White Lake, Campbell Side Rd to Waba Rd to Pakenham; home via Dwyerhill or Logger’s Way (TBD). Total distance 65Kms – 80 Kms. Of course, all this subject to change based upon the turnout and the actual weather, and one’s mood at the time.

FYI, this will be a middling ride for distance. It should be easier than to-day’s. And, to reiterate, it’s early going so just a heads-up to everyone to take extra care in the group to avoid spills.

The weather forecast is calling for lots of sunshine and temperature in the low single digits; winds SE 10. Dress for the cool.

Alert: Information about our ride’s (for new and old), these are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style) and easy on the legs. If you have had thoughts of joining us and weren’t sure about the pace or the distance, then, here’s your chance. You’ll love it. We all do.

Just a reminder to subscribers that you will get an email alert of any last-minute notifications by 7am or so on ride-mornings. For non-subscribers, please check this blog before leaving home.
