Well, hello. We’re in luck for Saturday. Good weather abounds.

The summer solstice is upon us. We are almost half way through the year. Life is good for most of us, for the most part. We are 10 % happier every day. We are thankful for that. We have few worries other than will it rain and what direction is the wind blowing. Others are less fortunate. But, it was ever thus. We give thanks for ‘whatever gods may be’ for our physical health, mental calm and resolve, and the free time and means to enjoy what many others might consider the frivolous and the non-essential. There is no meaning but what is found in being, and doing. One could do worse than ride a bicycle on a Saturday morning. Life is too short.

The nursing home awaits us in the near distance. I say this as I learn that my neighbour has been taken to the Embassy West for Alzheimer’s in Ottawa. So, keep moving and …

GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he ‘s a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he ‘s to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry. Robert Herrick

Okay, I hope you are still with me and that you might join me tomorrow in Almonte.

Parking off Farm St: https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Almonte,+Mississippi+Mills,+ON/@45.2250979,-76.1988123,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x4cd21a8fabc8f75f:0xa948c9538990778f

Here’s the plan:

Meet at on the bikes in Coady’s Parking lot in Almonte (parking is behind the building with access off Farm St.) for an 8.30 am 8.30 am start. You will need to register at the open air desk in the parking lot. It’s $15 but you get a burger and a pop at the end of the ride. Total distance is approx 100 kms. We head to Appleton first, then, circle back towards Clayton to Bellamy Rd to Bennies Crns to Blakeney to Pakenham and Barr Side Rd; home via County Rd 17/Martin St, etc.

Pace – easy as she goes; no pressure on the pedals; stop and smell the flowers.

This is a very nice country route, with some hard-pack road (Bellamy) but overall it’s worth doing. We will probably stop in Pakenham at the General Store as we return from Barr Side Rd on the return journey.

Bye bye, ac. Comments always welcome at arnpriorcycling@bell.net; http://www.twitter.com/ArnpriorCycling
