Hello and welcome to another weekend of riding. This was a short week indeed, having started on a Tuesday. Here we are again; same time, same channel – ready, set, go.

First a thought arising from the passing of an acquaintance. One wonders at the vicissitudes that befall us: missing one person but hitting another. I bumped into a former hockey teammate last week at Tim’s. I hadn’t seen him in a couple of years. He had had some heart troubles back then and hadn’t played much hockey since. We shook hands and exchanged a few pleasantries (the way one does) and then we went our separate ways. Two days later (Saturday) I read in the paper that he had died of a massive heart attack. Took me back. Here and gone, just like the imprint of his hand on mine. Hours to live only; and the two of us oblivious to the grim reaper waiting at the door. Nothing new about that but sometimes the clarity of it unsettles the mind. RIP.

How was your week? Wonky weather, don’t you agree. It will be cool tomorrow to start but it should warm up by lunch. Here is the tentative plan:

Meet at Old Orchard Lane at 8am 8am (SHARP)and ride to Pembroke (Keith’s Route) via River Road to the Four Corners, then up to Haley’s Station, Magensium Line, past Bully’s Acres and onward to Cobden and eventually to the Truck Stop in Pembroke; home via Beachburg, etc. Total distance 170 Kms. Lots of climbing. Steady as she goes, especially on the outward leg. Gregg and Karen and Mark may join us for the first 30 kms or so, or longer. Let’s make it a party! Brunch at Irving’s Truck Stop after about 100 kms. May I take your oder. Will that be B&E or Pancakes. Large serving please.

Weather forecast 1-3 C to start; winds from SW changing to W.
