August 23/14; Six Riders; 104 Kms; 3 Hrs 26; 351 Metres.

Well, the east wind this morning was fierce enough, making for a tough first half. Keith and Rob did most of the work. And, again this week, Mark continued to ride strong, heading to the front when he felt the urge to mix things up a bit. He punches a big hole for the rest of us to follow. Fortunately, I was able to take shelter behind him and the others, saving my energy for an explosive sprint to the stop sign at the bottom of Old Carp Road. I caught Keith by surprise. I asked him what he though about that. He smiled slyly and said ”I had nothing left.” You just should have been there. It was magic for about twenty-five metres anyway! And, on the return trip, while easier, we never really found the sweet spot. Rob suggested we alter the route by taking Second Line and Murphy Road to the Thomas Dolan Parkway. Good idea.

This was a relatively flat ride. And, I was flat, too. No fizzle to-day. Hope for more on Sunday. Here’s the tentative plan:

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd at 8 am 8 am and ride to Renfrew via Braeside, Toner Road, Stevenson, Lochwinnoch, Opeongo Rd and back into Renfrew for Coffee at Tim’s on Bruce St; home via Castleford and River Rd for a total distance of 70-80 kms. We have some options to be decided en-route. Weather forecast is 17-25 C, with light NW winds (but, hey, they are never really light, are they). Effort moderate. Keith has a big ride this week in Edmonton.

PS: Looks as if the MEC 100 km ride is on. Mark has registered. Who’s next to be ”pensive in the perennial pursuit of a pint”?
