Hello. Hope this finds you well. Last week’s incidents on the bicycle give one pause to reflect on the dangers of cycling. This coupled with the crashes on this year’s TdF is a constant reminder that it hurts like ___ when one hits the ground. So, this message is just a heads-up to us all to put safety above everything else on the group rides. Now, how do we do that? Well, it means: 1) safe, predictable riding 2) good bike handling skills 3) a safe, well maintained bicycle. Don’t put yourself or your fellow cyclists at risk.

Okay, if you haven’t seen any of the this year’s Tour, check http://www.steephill.tv. The first seven stages have seen many pile-ups. Some of these were expected, especially on Stage Five, what with bad weather and cobbles. But even to-day, when the roads were dry and the conditions good, there were several crashes. If you want to see how to take a high-speed tumble, check out Talansky on the last 200 metres of Stage Seven. Incredible!

For those interested, there is no Ride with Gregg this weekend.

So, what’s the tentative plan for the rest of us for  Saturday?

Venue: Canadian Tyre Parking Lot  on Daniel St at 8 am 8 am

Route: Carleton Place via Dwyer Hill; Home via Concession 8; Distance: 100 Kms approx

Description: Mostly flat with some rollers; Weather: Warm with South winds

Who’s riding? Keith and Mark can’t make this one. Anybody else?
